Thanks, Mark. Very interesting. From time to time I am impressed by all the remediation efforts going on all over the country - and at the same time I wonder if they can possibly keep pace with the environmental destruction.

With all the executive orders that our President has signed, what's keeping him from undoing the Jones Act for this crisis as Pres. Bush did with Katrina. We may not be seeing so much shore damage if other countrys were immediately allowed to assist in this disaster. That should have been his first response to this tragedy. Forget who's to blame and get this gusher under control first and foremost.

An additional consideration is that the loss due to this human-caused tragedy continues to be expressed in human terms (i.e., dollars). No one (BP, the US government, or any other human individual or agency) can possibly compensate the wildlife for the deaths and permanent injury that have been caused, and will have been caused, by this act of human greed. Furthermore, it is not just BP that is to blame -- every person who has used more fossil fuel than needed because of wasted miles driven or pathetically low vehicle fuel efficiency is to blame as well.

Fred,

I couldn't agree with you more. The birds and fish, turtles and more that are seen dead are just a fraction of what has actually died so far. Personally, I hope (but I know it likely won't happen) that criminal negligence charges and a trial is held against BP, and SOMEONE in their organization (likely CEO Dr. Tony!) is held accountable for this terrible human-greed inspired tragedy. It cannot be 'made right' no matter what he says nor anyone else! If we don't take this as a wake-up call, I am not sure what will make us change. We ALL must change how we deal with energy, and this is what drives BP and the other petroleum companies.

But let's not forget that our government officials who license and 'enforce' regulations are also equally to blame. These people must go, and come November, maybe a clean slate is not the worst idea to attain positive change in America.

Just visited Disney's Animal (Kingdom) Park with my grandchildren. Wish you all had been there, it would have been so special! Thanks for all you have done for the Whoopers! I love your Podcasts!

Linda,

Liz, Joe and to be sure all the OM team have visited Disney's DAK over the years. It's a fabulous place! Not sure which is better though... Epcot or DAK. Quite different... depends on who you are with.

Hi, Mark.

The White Ghosts of the Wetlands piece was very, very good. Too bad
it wasn't used nationally by NPR.

Fred (Frederick Wasti)

Thanks, Fred. A few other stations may still pick it up, as I have it offered as a free broadcast for Public Radio, so who knows. It is timeless as a piece, though does quote current numbers once.

NPR stations can be difficult to work with... much worse than any commercial radio facility. Really!
Hi Mark, I need some help finding out what happened to "TUX" . He was born 2000 at Patuxent and released to the Florida Non-migratory program. From what I could gather from the Patuxent site he was still alive 2008. Will you please try to find out how Tux is doing. I will really appreciate it. Much thanks, & "Hi" to Peggy, Lynn Walsh

Hi there,

I checked with Marty Folk with the Florida Fish And Wildlfe, and he said that the bird known as Tux died in May 2008, and his remains were so scavenged that the cause of death (predation, accident or whatever) could not be determined.

He was a bird residing on the Kissimmee Prairie I believe. Thanks!

Sure like to listen to these podcasts. Makes up for me not being able to be there in person. Thanks for all the great moments . Love all of it. I feel so insignificant here . Just keep up the great work.

Marguerite,

There is no one, even those who watch the Whoopers, that is 'insignificant' in any way! Everyone is important, and your interest and support helps the birds more than you know. Thanks!
